It’s been a long, long while since we first released Gurren Lagann on Blu-ray here in the UK, but even after all of those years the show’s popularity has endured, and we’ve been asked many a time about whether we’re planning to release the series’ two movies on 4K UHD Blu-ray at some point.
Well, now we can give you the answer, and the answer is: yes! We can’t wait to bring you a whole new way to enjoy this iconic series, so without further ado let’s delve into our plans for Gurren Lagann the Movie!
Gurren Lagann the Movie 4K UHD + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition
Let’s start with a quick reminder of what Gurren Lagann is all about!
This is the story of a man who has yet to realise what destiny holds in store for him… Far in the future, humans have lived underground, quietly and restlessly, for hundreds of years, suffering from frequent earthquakes and land subsidence. In Giha Village, one such underground community, live two young men. Simon is shy andnaive, while Kamina believes in the existence ofa “surface” world above their heads.Their destinies start changing drastically when theceiling falls and a gigantic “Gunmen” and a beautifulgirl named Yoko with a superconductive rifle come from the surface. Kamina, Simon and Yoko get onthe “Lagann” that Simon digs out from the ground, and jump out to the surface! However, the surfaceis not such a dreamland as Kamina imagined. The world is ruled by the Spiral King and his army. Kamina and Simon, along with their comrades must challenge the Spiral King with Gurren Lagann if they hope to change the desperate world for the better!
As it’s been so long since we last released a collector’s edition around this show, we wanted to offer up both films in collector’s packaging, so let’s take a look and see what we have to offer!
Gracing your shelf will be a rigid slipcase (encased in a J-card information sheet) featuring this piece of of all-new artwork created specifically for the15th anniversary Japanese re-release of the films. Within that you’ll find two Amaray cases, one for each film boasting specific artwork for that movie. Speaking of artwork, we’re also including a couple of art cards with artwork from the two films for good measure.

Within each Amaray, you’ll find two discs – one for the relevant film on 4K UHD Blu-ray, plus the film on regular Blu-ray as well for good measure, so if you’re looking to own the show for the first time or just want to futureproof your collection then this is a great way to do it!
Both UHD Blu-ray discs in this set contain the two films in 4K HDR10 – both films feature the original Japanese audio (with English subtitles) and the all-new English dub tracks, both of which are presented in Dolby Atmos form. Also included is a Japanese stereo audio commentary for the films from the production crew with English subtitles.
The Blu-ray discs for this release have been reauthored for this new edition to include that new English dub, as well as the original Japanese dub with English subtitles, both in 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. That Japanese audio commentary is also included here, in stereo DTS-HD Master Audio with English subtitles.

Alongside this Collector’s Edition, we’ll also be making the films available as a 4K UHD Standard Edition, with both films on 4K UHD in an Amaray case, with the same on-disc contents as the Collector’s Edition.
This edition will be releasing a little later in the year (expect to see it around November time), and sports an SRP of £49.99.
Gurren Lagann the Movie 4K UHD Standard Edition – coming later in 2026If you just want the films on regular Blu-ray, we’re also relaunching that as a Standard Edition, utilising this new author to provide you with that English dub.
Again, on-disc contents are the same as the Collector’s Edition. This edition will retail with a £29.99 SRP and will be available across retail, with the same release and pre-order dates as the Collector’s Edition, meaning pre-orders open on Thursday, July 16th at 5PM.
